What cyclocross teaches us

Today on the ride to school, we talked about what cyclocross teaches us:

  1. if you can suffer through 45min of a cyclocross race, you can do ANY UNPLEASANT THING for 45min

  2. You can accomplish a lot in a very short period of time if you have intense focus and prepare for it

  3. With the right attitude, suffering can be FUN

  4. The worst part of doing something difficult is the anticipation. The 5min or so staging before the race is always a nightmare for me. I get butterflies & feel an overpowering urge to eliminate (up, down AND forward). Except at a handful of my favorite venues I always think: "I hate this. This is definitely my last race ever." But by the end of the first lap, I'm having the time of my life.
