The one hour DC Tour
Published 2011-03-19
I’ve visited the capital cities of at least nine foreign countries but it took me 40 years to visit my own. I feared that between the conference I’m here to attend and the ongoing disaster I wouldn’t get to see much of the town. But yesterday I skipped a session, put on my running shoes, and went for a literal one hour tour.
I’m not too macho to admit that, standing in the exact place Martin Luther King stood and looking at the statue of the Great Man who freed the slaves, I got a little misty eyed.
Postscript: My new running shoes are of the suddenly-trendy “barefoot” variety and they are amazing. But wow are my calves sore today.
