I have been indifferently writing about my life since my first-ever website, but back then we called these things “homepages” or “journals.”

In 2002, this morphed into an ongoing experiment where I would make hand-rolled html & css-based “static web art,” which itself was mixed in with the journally writing. That persisted until 2005 or so, when I finally learned about MySQL.

I think I began calling this all a “web log” (or “blog” if you prefer) when we moved to China in 2006.

I have never much cared to write professionally about techy or designy things. My job is not my passion, I am just a humble web janitor. Strip away the fancy words like “orthognality” and my professional concerns are maintainability and readability, and those are boring subjects. So boring that I can’t bring myself to write about them. Mostly I write about riding bikes. A pretty solid bulk of the blog consists of reports from bike races.
